My name is Linda Wylie and I work at the Paisley campus of the University of the West of Scotland. My subject area is midwifery and, at present, I am programme leader for the BSc Midwifery Programme. This is a three year degree programme that also enables registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in the UK as a midwife.
My interests in midwifery are the physiology and pathophysiology of pregnancy and childbirth. However I also have a particular passion in promoting normal childbirth as I firmly believe that the majority of women are perfectly capable of giving birth naturally with minimum intervention. If they are allowed!! And herein lies the problem!!! Medical staff, and on occasion, midwives, seem totally incapable of letting nature take its course. There will be more of this elsewhere.
